The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) took out a march from Mandi House to Parliament Street here today against the "retrograde" recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.

DUTA president Rajib Ray said the proposed pay structure "will hurt interests of teachers awaiting permanent placements and promotions".

"College teachers have been downgraded at every level. Even principals have been downgraded from the level of the professor to that of the associate professor after the completion of their tenure. This is an indirect way of denying professorship in colleges," Ray said.

The DUTA also reiterated its demand to make public the UGC Pay Review Committee report.

"The DUTA has submitted a memorandum with a detailed critique of the the 7th Pay Revision for teachers to the HRD Ministry. The DUTA demands an immediate rollback of the adverse provisions of the proposed pay structure," he said in a statement.

The DUTA observed November 15 as 'Black Day' in protest against the pay panel recommendations.
