Education is a long journey to discover your inner self, Delhi University Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh today said as he called on the student community to repay their debt to society.
Addressing the students of Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology-Delhi (IIIT-D), Singh said, "Do not ever think you have made it on your own. Pay your debt to the society, it will be the final culmination of your journey."
The DU Vice Chancellor was the chief guest at the second convocation of the Delhi government-run IT institute.
Describing education as a long journey to discover inner self, Singh said earning degrees was not enough and students need to listen to their inner voice.
"Lord Buddha did not go to any university. If you believe he was uneducated, then you should not believe in anything. Scientist Michael Faraday had no formal education, but he understood his inner voice," he said.
He also said students must have integrity and discipline to achieve their goals.
"Sunil Gavaskar would practice six to eight hours a day during his school days because he wanted to be a batsman. Amitabh Bachchan, from his first day as an actor, was the first person to arrive at the studio," the DU VC said.
In his message on the occasion, Chairman of the IIIT-D Board of Governors and former Nasscom President Kiran Karnik congratulated the students who graduated and said the institution was one of the few to have established a reputation for themselves in such a short period of time.
A total of 79 B-Tech and M-Tech students were awarded degrees at the convocation ceremony.
