A firm here promising to provide electronic appliances at low rates has allegedly duped over two dozen local people and fled with around Rs two crore, the police said today.
The accused Tajuddin, about a month ago, had opened 'Taj traders' in Hasanganj locality here and duped people by promising them electronic appliances at cheaper rates -- 45 per cent less from the market price -- within 15 days of the booking, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Surendra Yadav said today.
"Claiming that he was dealing directly with branded companies and passing on the discounts to the consumers, the owner won the trust of people after providing the goods of the first booking in time,

"However, yesterday, when the accused was supposed to do the next delivery he allegedly fled with the amount," the DSP said.
A total of 24 people have lodged FIR against the trader and investigation into the case is on, he said, adding that the police is looking into the GST and mobile numbers mentioned in the receipts.
