Crime branch sleuths arrested 30-year-old Shree Ram, a resident of Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, and Basudev Das alias Badal, 41, a resident of Jahangirpuri, with 200 kgs of cannabis (ganja) from a truck near the G D Goenka school at around 1.30 AM after getting tip-off, a senior police official said.
Police received information yesterday that a huge consignment of contraband would be brought to Delhi. One person would be coming near the school at Model Town-III, to deliver the consignment to one Basudev Das alias Badal.
"Acting upon the information, a trap was laid and two persons were apprehended with a truck containing huge quantity of contraband," the official said.
During interrogation, Shree Ram confessed he had received the consignment from one Bapu of Angul in Odisha and he had brought it to deliver to Das.
Das, after purchasing the cannabis from Shree Ram, used to sell it to his customers in New Delhi at a huge profit. Both of them were engaged in this racket since some time. To earn easy money, they joined this racket.
"The contraband recovered is worth approximately Rs two crores in the international market," the official said.
