Two persons who won the trust of a jewellery shop owner here by regularly making purchases over the last six months, allegedly duped him of Rs one crore worth jewels after promising to pay him later, police said.

The duo purchased seven kgs of gold yesterday for Rs one crore and promised to pay for it later, but did not turn up, they said.

Initial investigations revealed that the men had bought ornaments from the shop many times in the past six months and had thus won the trust of the owner. The accused used to stay at a house near the shop and were from Tirunelveli, they said.
