Two persons, hailing from Andaman and Nicobar, allegedly stabbed a taxi driver and took away the car near here in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.
One of them was caught while the other was absconding, they said.
The two had booked the car to go to Madurai from here. As the car reached Sulur, about 20 km from here, one of them stabbed the driver Vasanthkumar, pushed him out of the vehicle and drove the car away, the police said.
Passersby took the injured driver and admitted him to the Government hospital here.
On being informed, police alerted checkposts and other strategic points towards Tirupur and border districts, and intercepted the car with the duo near Tirupur.
One of them escaped from the police, while the other was taken into custody.
