Dutch prosecutors search Amsterdam office of Uber

Dutch prosecutors have raided the Amsterdam offices of Uber, seizing records as part of an investigation into the UberPOP ride-hailing service.

Prosecutors said that Uber is suspected of breaching a Dutch taxi law with its UberPOP app that allows passengers to solicit rides from drivers who are not registered taxi drivers.

A Dutch court ruled last year that the UberPOP service was illegal. Uber, which has tens of thousands of Dutch users, has appealed that ruling.

In a reaction to yesterday's raid, Uber spokesman Gareth Mead says the company "will of course continue to cooperate with the Dutch authorities on this ongoing investigation into UberPOP," but adds that the company disputes the allegations of wrongdoing.

The law governing taxi licenses is under review by the Dutch Parliament.
