In wake of charges from West Bengal government about DVC's improper handling which triggered widespread flood in the state in last year's monsoon, the corporation effected massive overhauling of the system this season, to ensure better flood management and control.

"We have taken several measures like revision of guide curves as well as Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulatory Comission, bring Tenughat dam under control and implementing technology and systems for better reporting of data and desimination," DVC Chairman A W K Langstieh said here today.

For flood forecast, a new software has been installed which gives three days' rainwater inflow forecast.

This year the maximum holding capacity of major dams had been inceased. Like for Panchet dam the capacity had been raised from 425 feet to 435 feet.

While, for Maithon it has been raised from 495 to 500 feet.

Last year, parts of the West Bengal faced floods when monsoon was not evenly spread and about 37 lakh people in 12 districts were affected.

Langstieh apprised West Bengal Chief Secretary Basudeb Banerjee about the initiatives and assured full-cooperation from the company's end in flood-control management this monsoon.

He paid visit Maithon for prepradness several times during this season, officials said.
