Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) operated Chandrapura Thermal Power Station's Unit No 1, which is producing 110 MW power currently, will be closed down from midnight tonight, a senior official said.

Commissioned in 1964, Unit No 1 of the power station, which has a generating capacity of 130 MW, will be shut from midnight tonight on the directive of Union Ministry of Power since it is an old unit, Project Head of the power plant B N Sah said.

Unit No 1 has been producing between 110-115 MW power ever since it was commissioned, he said adding that the unit is being closed because new power plants are coming up.

Sah added that Unit No 2 and 3 and other units too are likely to be closed on similar grounds in near future.
