Dwarka will start getting water from Munak canal within a week with the operationalisation of water treatment plant (WTP) in the sub-city, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) informed the High Court here today.

DJB made the submission before a bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva which had in December last year ordered the civic body to connect Nangloi, Bawana and Dwarka WTPs with the Munak canal.

Additional Solicitor General Pinky Anand, appearing for DJB, submitted that all three WTPs have been connected with Munak and trial runs were in progress and they will be operational within a week.

Taking note of the submission, the court observed it would solve the water problems of entire sub-city of Dwarka and other areas to some extent.

The court, meanwhile, also sought an action plan from DJB on recycling the water generated by the capital so as to use it for drinking purposes.

Currently, waste water is being recycled for horticulture purposes, DJB informed the court.

During proceedings, DJB submitted a status report in which it said the connection between Dwarka WTP and Munak was temporary, as Delhi government has not been able to implement the Lt Governor's July 9, 2013 order directing DDA to conduct a survey of two villages at Madanpur Dabas and Amar Vihar here for relocating the bonafide residents to EWS flats made by the authority in Dwarka.

The court had earlier directed the city government to carry out the exercise to free the land of these two areas to connect Munak canal and Dwarka WTP, with DJB then saying it could not make the connection in two weeks due to encroachments at these two places.

Meanwhile, Haryana government said it has some objections regarding contentions made by DJB, particularly on the connecting of Dwarka with Munak. It said it will place its stand before the court through an affidavit on next date of hearing, March 27.
