Dy Speaker election next week; 6 parl panels filled

Members of six parliamentary panels, including the prestigious Public Accounts Committee, and 25 government bodies have been elected unanimously while the election of the Deputy Speaker will be held next week.

The other parliamentary committees whose members have been unanimously elected are the Estimates Committee, Committee of Public Undertakings, Committee for Welfare of SC/ST, Committee for Welfare of OBCs and Committee on Offices of Profit.

Among the government bodies which saw MPs being elected unanimously are the Committee on Official Languages, Central Silk Board, Coffee Board and Khadi and Village Industries Commission.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters that the election of the Deputy Speaker will be held next week and the post will go to the opposition.
 

He also thanked various political parties for their cooperation in the unanimous election of members to the six parliamentary committees.

Meanwhile, as far as the parliamentary panels are concerned, senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi is likely to head the Estimates Committee while former Union Minister KV Thomas may lead the Public Accounts Committee, whose chairmanship is being offered to Congress.

Senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar's name figures as the possible head of the Committee on Public Undertakings while Faggan Singh Kulaste is likely to be the chairman of the Committee for SC/ST.

Bandaru Dattatreya's name is doing the rounds as the likely head of the Committee for Welfare of OBCs.
