The Goa government's e-auction of iron ore has received lukewarm response as only 25 per cent of the ore put on sale was picked up during the bidding.

"We had identified 21 lakh tonnes of ore at different sites in the state, of which 5.46 lakh tonnes were sold yesterday, fetching a bid value of around Rs 44.41 crore," Director of Mines and Geology, Goa, Prasanna Acharya said.

This was the 15th e-auctioning by the state government.

After getting consistently poor response for e-auctioning, the department had slashed the minimum earnest money deposit (EMD).

The minimum EMD was Rs 1 lakh for bidding up to 5,000 metric tonnes (MT) as against the earlier Rs 25 lakh for a bid up to 1,000 metric tonnes of iron ore.
