E-rickshaw driver suffers serious injuries after man sets him

An e-rickshaw driver suffered serious injuries when a man set him ablaze after pouring kerosene oil over his body, police said.

Umesh (18), resident of Brij Vihar colony, was saved by passersby who doused the fire, Assistant Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar said.

He had gone to drop some passengers near Ramprastha colony this morning and when he was returning, a youth poured kerosene oil over his body and set him ablaze, he said.

His 60 per cent body is seriously burnt and he is undergoing treatment at a hospital, Kumar said.

An old enmity is said to be the cause of the violent act, he said.
 

The accused has been identified as Pawan (18), resident of Kadkad model village. He was arrested and sent to jail under section 307 IPC, he added.
