E-stamping mode of collection of stamp duty in Odisha was inaugurated here today by state's Revenue Minister Bijayshree Routray.

The facility will be currently available here, Bhubaneswar and at Rourkela in the State and it will be subsequently extended to 185 centres across the State in phased manner, the minister announced.

The state government earlier this month had inked a pact with Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL) for this purpose authorising SHCIL as the central record keeping agency for implementation e-stamping facility in Odisha.

While inaugurating the facility in the presence of state industries minister Devi Prasad Mishra, the revenue minister said the previous modes of collection of stamp duties through stamp vendors and franking machines shall continue.

"The e-stamping facility is a secure, easy and time-saving mode of collection of stamp duty. Both the State government and the registrant public will be immensely benefitted by the facility", Routray said while handing over the first e-stamps worth Rs 11,000 to two registrants on the day.

Revenue secretary Mona Sharma speaking on the occasion informed that the State government collected Rs 2700 crore as stamp duty in 2015-16 fiscal and hoped that with the introduction of e-stamping the revenue collection on this head will grow as there would be no scope for any fraudulent transaction.
