Former Union Minister E V K S Elangovan, who was today appointed as president of the faction-riddled Tamil Nadu Congress unit, said that he will meet all senior leaders, including G K Vasan and outgoing chief BS Gnanadesikan, in an apparent move to ensure unity.

"I will meet Kumari Anandan, G K Vasan, Gnanadesikan and all other senior leaders," he said in a brief interaction with reporters at TNCC headquarters, Sathyamurthy Bhavan here.

Hours after his appointment was announced in Delhi by party's state In-Charge Mukul Wasnik, Elangovan said he will try to live up to the expectations of the party high command.

He said he will assume charge tomorrow after discussing with Gnanadesikan in this regard, and promised the media to have a more detailed interaction after that.

Elangovan is seen as a no-nonsense leader and expectations are high in the party, which had always piggybacked on Dravidian parties for surivival since it lost power in 1967, that he would actively take all leaders along in the party's bid to put up a better show in the next Assembly elections, scheduled in 2016.

The Congress' state unit had fared badly in the 2011 Assembly elections and was routed in this year's Lok Sabha polls where it could not win a single seat, after trying its luck by itself following its split from DMK last year over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
