intensity measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale shook Assam and other North East states at midnight, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre here.
No casualty or damage to property has been reported so far.
The tremor occurred around 11.57 pm with its epicentre in latitude 25.7 degree north and longitude 91.1 degree east at a depth of 10 km in Meghalaya's West Khasi Hills district, according to the Met office.
As per reports received here today, the quake jolted Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
A quake measuring 3.1 with epicentre in Morigaon district of Assam, a major earthquake-prone belt in the world, was recorded earlier this week.
