The Local Area Development fund of the East Corporation has been reduced and the councillors will get only Rs 51 lakh each for development activities. The undivided Municipal Corporation of Delhi had proposed Rs 2.5 crore.
Mayor Annapurna Mishra said the budget allocation at a low level might hit development of unauthorised colonies in east Delhi as the civic bodies cannot spend money on the given budget.
She pointed out that most of the areas in the civic body are unauthorised. "Our hands are tied," she said adding she would however, strive to ensure that development reaches these colonies.
Accusing Delhi government of not providing any help to the newly-formed three corporations, Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta said when the corporation was not split, money was equally distributed all through Delhi.
"Now with the trifurcation, the North and East Corporations will be financially weaker. There should be more monetary support from the government but instead of that, they are pulling the corporation down," he alleged. PTI SJY PAL
