Press Trust of India Dubai
British East India Company, a food brand headed by an Indian-origin entrepreneur, has launched its first store in the UAE.

Besides fine teas and coffees, the company offers artisan sweets and biscuits, a chocolate range and jams and marmalades.

The company also offers hand-crafted bone china and porcelain for tea and coffee.

The 19th-century trading company was refashioned by Indian-origin entrepreneur Sanjiv Mehta in 2005.

Mehta, Chairman of the company, said the UAE was a natural destination for the company to choose its next store.

"The Emirates are fast becoming recognised as a global retail leader, and we are truly delighted to be here," he said.

The store of the company is the third in the Middle East as it already runs a store each in Kuwait and Doha, and the first in the UAE.
