EC against engagement of children in poll-related work

The Election Commission has taken strong exception to engagement of children in various poll- related activities and held it as highly objectionable forcing Jammu and Kashmir government to issue a circular on violation of children's rights during elections.

"The EC has taken strong exception to engagement of children in various election-related activities and held the same as highly objectionable," an official spokesman said.

According to official circular,

it has further held that no such violation of children's rights for any work connected with the poll process like campaigning or carrying of campaigning material will not be acceptable.

The District Election Officer/Returning Officers will be personally held responsible for any such violation and will face severe disciplinary action apart from facing consequences of law, if any such instance comes to EC's notice, it said.
