The Election Commission has allowed two persons to contest polls, months after they were barred from contesting any election for failing to submit requisite poll expenditure details.

Gurpartap Singh Tikka and Yadvinder Singh have been allowed to contest the elections, an official spokesperson said.

Earlier both were disqualified by the EC to contest any General or Assembly elections as they failed to submit the requisite details regarding expenditure.

Both had contested 2012 Punjab Assembly polls as independent candidates from Amritsar (South) Assembly seat.

Spokesperson of the EC said both these candidates were prohibited to take part in the electoral procedure under section 11 of Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Gurpartap and Yadvinder had approached the EC, represented their case and filed an affidavit also.

After examining the documents submitted, the EC has issued the renewed directions allowing them to contest elections, thereby cancelling the earlier order issued on June 7, 2016 regarding disqualifying them to contest elections, spokesperson said.
