Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni today asked candidates, who contested the May 16 polls, to file their election expenditure on or before June 19.

"We have asked the candidates to file their expenditure details on or before June 19...," Lakhoni told reporters.

On reports that the Commission had allegedly spent Rs 25 crore towards advertisement campaigns in Tamil Nadu, he said, "The total election expenditure (incurred in Tamil Nadu) is approximately Rs 210 crore and only Rs 25 lakh towards expenditure on advertisements," he said.

He said the Commission has returned Rs 47.44 crore to respective owners of the seized Rs 105.20 crore unaccounted cash when model code of conduct was in effect in the state.

The Commission would take steps to identify reasons for low voter turnout in some places during the assembly polls, he said.
