A voter in Saharsa district, who cast his vote first and then cremated his father's dead body, today came up for special praise from the Election Commission.

The exemplary act was performed by Dular Chandra Vishwas in Saharsa's Sonvarsha Assembly constituency yesterday during the fifth and last phase of poll.

"It is inspiring and it should motivate other voters," Additional Chief Electoral Officer R Lakshamanan told PTI over the episode.

Vishwas's father Magan Vishwas had died yesterday morning, the day polling was scheduled in Saharsa along with eight other districts.

The relatives of Vishwas were busy making preparation for the cremation when he sought leave for some time and went to exercise his franchise before performing the last rites of his father whose dead body waited for his return from the polling booth.

Vishwas cast his vote at polling station number 99 of Sonvarsha assembly segment in Saharsa district.
