Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa Monday said that being mindful of depositors' money and trust was as important as sincerity in one's job.
He was speaking at the 49th Foundation Day of the National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM) here. Ramon Magsaysay winner Bharat Vatwani was also part of the function.
Stressing on ethical banking, Lavasa said, "Doing one's job sincerely is not enough. To be mindful of depositors' money and the trust imposed by them is equally important."
He told the gathering that adhering to banking codes, sustainable development and ethics in banking was important as was training programmes on these aspects for bankers.
He asked the NIBM to introspect to ensure it achieves the objectives it was set up for.
