Barely into the third week since the Assembly elections were notified, a whopping 1.34 lakh complaints have been received by the election authorities in Tamil Nadu about alleged poll code violations, largely related to political graffiti on public and private properties.
A total of 1,34,224 complaints had been received from across Tamil Nadu for violations including inscription of grafitti, pasting wall-posters and putting up banners on public properties, an official release said here today.
Similar complaints of defacement of private properties had also been received. While 16,360 complaints had been received for political grafitti, 2,523 complaints were for putting up banners, it said.
"Action has been taken on 75,095 complaints and political grafitti has been erased. For violations like grafitti inscription, pasting posters and putting up banners over public properties 384 cases have been registered and 187 cases in respect of private spaces," the release said.
