The Election Commission today sought a report from the district magistrate of Birbhum on the alleged "objectionable assurance" by Trinamool Congress candidate from Birbhum, Satabdi Roy.

We have seen her in a video footage where she is assuring the people that areas supporting her party will get priority on development works. We have asked the DM for a detailed report on what she exactly said, Assistant CEO Amitjyoti Bhattacharya said.

Roy's assurance to the people was partial in nature and in violation of the Model Code of Conduct, election office sources said, adding that nobody can divide people on the line of their line of thinking.

During campaigning, Roy had said that she would give priority for development to areas of those people who would support her, to which opposition parties took exception.
