EC sends showcause notice to Anubrata, Anisur again

The Election Commission today sent showcause notices to two controversial leaders -- Trinamool Congress' Anubrata Mandal and Anisur Rehaman of the CPI(M) for a second time for allegedly uttering derogatory remarks against leaders of opposition parties.

"Anubrata Mandal has once again being sent showcause notice by Election Commission over his remarks. Anisur Rehman too had been sent showcause notice," sources in the state Chief Electoral Office said.

The two had been showcasued last week too in separate allegations of violation of model code of conduct.

Meanwhile, the Income Tax (IT) department has seized unaccounted cash and valuables, including gold worth over Rs three crore in various parts West Bengal since March 5, Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta said.
 

"The IT department has seized Rs 2.94 crore in unaccounted cash and Rs 92 lakh worth of valuables," Gupta told reporters.
