Accusing Joy Banerjee, the BJP candidate from Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal of violating the Model Code of Conduct, the ruling Trinamool Congress demanded that the Election Commission take steps against him.
"What happened is against the customs of Bengal. It is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. We have already lodged a complaint with the EC. We want the EC to take strong action," Trinamool Congress General Secretary Mukul Roy said today.
Banerjee was yesterday accused of bribing voters in his constituency during campaigning, with the TMC, Congress and CPI(M) condemning it.
Both Banerjee and the BJP have denied the allegation and said it was a malicious campaign against the party candidate.
