ECoR's skill development training for 300 local youths

As part of its 'Skill India' programme, East Coast Railways has launched a skill development training for 300 local youths at its Carriage Repair Workshop at Mancheswar near here.

"An MoU between Carriage Repair Workshop, Mancheswar of East Coast Railway & Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Bhubaneswar is being planned for imparting training in the Workshop for all in-house activities, research in carriage, coaches of Indian Railway and projects based on Indian Railway carriage technology and dissemination of knowledge," said Chief Workshop Manager, S K Pankaj.

The training is being given to youths holding ITI and diplomas from various institutes.

"These youth will be trained in various trades whereby they will be more confident in the competitive job market in the future," a ECoR official said adding that a Skill-course with Indian Railways will definitely equip the candidates/trainees with better understanding of a large sector like Railways and many facets of engineering can be understood by them.
 

Carriage repair workshop, Mancheswar, has come forward as the most productive workshop of Indian Railways by achieving an increase of 46 per cent periodic overhauling (POH) outturn during 2014-15 which is highest over the last two years.

It has also achieved highest performances in various fields like corrosion outturn, coach refurbishment, BMBC conversion, provision of LED based tail lamp in SLR Coaches, provision of Laptop and Mobile Charging Points in Coaches & provision of LED-based emergency lights.
