Grammy-winning singer Ed Sheeran has been immortalised as an oil painting at London's National Portrait Gallery.

Sheeran, 26, posed for artist Colin Davidson for three hours at home in Suffolk back in August 2015, after a chance meeting between the Northern Irish artist and his art historian dad John, reported BBC.

The 4ft-by-4ft portrait is titled "Ed Sheeran".

"When painting a portrait I am looking for the moment when the person is almost unaware of me being there and I feel I got it with Ed.

"It has been a true privilege to get to know Ed and his family. It is my hope that this new portrait offers an alternative insight, one which allows the viewer to glimpse the source of Ed's unique creativity (sic)," Davidson said.

Davidson, who is known for his larger-than-life canvasses, has painted many high-profile people, including Seamus Heaney, Brad Pitt and Queen Elizabeth.
