The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will hold a special camp here later this week for speedy disposal of cases relating to about 200 NRIs and PIOs who have purchased properties in Goa in alleged violation of foreign exchange rules.
Officials said the one-day camp will be held at the ED office here on December 26 and the agency's Special Director (West) S W Naqvi will come down from Mumbai to meet Non-Resident Indians and Persons of Indian Origin to initiate proper action to dispose of these cases quickly.
"The agency has come across about 200 cases where NRIs/ PIOs have purchased either land or other immovable assets in the beach state in violation of the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). The camp is being held to educate these people and initiate speedy disposal of these cases under investigation," an official in the agencty said.
The official said the people who purchased properties in contravention of the law, in some cases, have done it inadvertently and ED wants to dispose these of.
