Twenty new sports academies at a cost of Rs one crore and a CNG-run furnace at a crematorium have been proposed by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation in its budget presented today.
Sanjay Surjan, Chairman of EDMC's Standing Committee, in his budget estimate for the financial year 2014-15 and revised estimates for financial year 2013-14 announced this among other plans for the civic body.
"Twenty sports academies will be developed in both zones of the municipal body with a budget of Rs one crore. Women toilets will also be developed at busy public places such as market area with an estimated budget of Rs one crore," EDMC said in a statement today.

As per the estimates, home delivery of birth and death certificates will be delivered through speed post with a sanctioned budget of Rs 60 lakh for it.
A special window in both zones of the corporation has also been proposed to add name on birth certificates within half an hour.
The amount provided for wedding of widows' daughters has been planned to be increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000.
To simplify license policy for traders, plans are on the anvil to deliver licenses at their doorsteps.
While the amount of medical facility for councillors has been increased to Rs 15 lakh, a cashless medical card for the employees of EDMC has been proposed with a budget of Rs 20 crore, the statement said.
Evening OPD at Swami Dayanand Hospital to benefit patients from economically weaker sections of society specially who earn their livelihood on daily wages has also been planned.
For health services of children studying in municipal schools, a budget of Rs 20-20 lakh has been earmarked.
Each division will be provided with small loader to clean drains. A cattle ground at Kalyanpuri would be developed for which the budget has been increased to Rs 70 lakh, Surjan said.
The budget of scholarship to school children has been increased to Rs 50 lakh. Solar energy system is to be erected in municipal schools with a budget of Rs 50 lakh.
