EDMC sanitation workers threaten to go on strike from Oct 11

A section of sanitation workers of cash-strapped East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) today threatened to go on an indefinite strike from Wednesday over various issues, including "non-payment of their salaries", an MCD union official said.

"We have been requesting EDMC and the Delhi government for permanent solution to delays in payment of salaries to all the employees, including sanitation workers, but there is no result yet.

"On October 11, we will gherao the headquarters of the EDMC in Patparganj and protest over the issues," said Sanjay Gehlot, president of MCD Swachhata Karmchari Union.

He claimed that besides the sanitation workers, many other employees of the EDMC, related to the union, would also join the stir.
 

"Our demands include payment of salaries due to various employees, arrears and medical cashless card, retirement benefits and pension," he said.
