A sanitary guide of EDMC in Shahdara area in east Delhi was today suspended during a ward inspection by its Mayor here.

East Delhi Mayor Harsh Malhotra inspected ward no. 214 (Khichripur) in the area, and expressed his displeasure over the sanitation condition, following which he initiated action against some of the officials.

The ward, falling in Shahdara (South) Zone of EDMC is currently unrepresented, after its councillor Vinod Kumar Binny left the post to fight Delhi Assembly polls.

"After Mayor's inspection, a sanitary guide was suspended. Besides, recordable warning has been issued to a sanitary inspector while a memo has been issued to an executive engineer (electricity) for not being present during the inspection," a senior official of the EDMC said.

Malhotra said that "sanitation is our prime responsibility and no laxity would be tolerated in any case."

The Mayor also visited a park in Mayur Vihar which was maintained satisfactorily but on requests of area residents, directed the horticulture department to further improve and beautify it.

The Mayor also inspected an under-construction drain at a village in Khichripur, work of which has been "stalled due to some dispute over land.
