East Delhi Municipal Corporation will soon start the eviction process to remove illegal occupants of its Usmanpur Colony in Shahdara area.

The action comes in the wake of such occupants not responding to the notices served on them. They have been given three days to respond, after which action will be taken, the EDMC today said.

"We had identified 101 illegal occupants who were living in flats at the Usmanpur Colony in Shahdara (North) Zone, rented out to them by original allottees. They were served notices to leave the accommodations rented illegally to them," said J L Gupta, Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) of the municipal corporation.

About 25-30 illegal occupants responded to notices while remaining 70-75 did not reply to the notices. The EDMC officials with the help of police will start eviction process in next few days, he said.

The illegal occupants were rented out the corporation's accommodations either by the allottees or they have been living their without any allotment, Gupta said.

The municipal employees living in the colony have also been instructed to share the information about illegal occupants with the Estates Department.

"An announcement with regard to the eviction drive has already been made and the illegal occupants have been given 3 days time to leave the flats voluntarily failing which they will be evicted," the official said.
