Markets and crowded areas in East Delhi will soon have new stainless steel dustbins as the EDMC today launched a drive to put 600 such trash cans in its areas to boost the Centre's Swachch Bharat Mission.

Chairman of Standing Committee of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) Lata Gupta started the drive from Vikas Marg near Laxmi Nagar Metro Station.

Gupta said that to keep East Delhi clean, 600 stainless steel dustbins will be installed in markets and areas with high footfall.

She said that the new dustbins would help check the problem of littering as the cans would be available within easy reach. These would also be easy to maintain and match to the latest aesthetics of street furniture.

Leader of House Ram Narayan Dubey said that installation of dustbins in all busy areas of East Delhi will make the area cleaner and encourage people to use them.

In another event, Commissioner of EDMC Amit Yadav today planted sapling of a tree in Shahdara area to mark the beginning of a tree plantation drive, 'Van Mahotsav', in East Delhi.

Yadav said the 'Van Mahotsav' aims at making East Delhi cleaner and greener thus helping control pollution, and added that civic body has set a target of planting 25,000 saplings in areas within its jurisdiction.
