Emphasising that educational institutions must provide three per cent reservation for differently-abled persons, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities today said those violating this provision may have to face penalties.

Inaugurating a four-day Art and Craft Cultural Exhibition 'Inspiring Change' which commenced under the aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, Department Secretary Lov Verma said the new bill currently pending in the Upper House for its consideration would have the aforesaid provisions incorporated in it.

"The moment, the proposed bill became an Act, it would have to be implemented in its later and spirit. Those who refuse to comply with its stipulation would have to face even the stringent penalties including jail terms," the release quoting him said.

The bill would also have provisions to broad base and widen the basket of disabled persons categories, currently restricted to seven categories to seventeen so that the disabilities of the aggrieved are more than adequately addressed, he added.
