The Himachal Pradesh government was committed to provide quality education to children, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said today.

To provide quality education to students in schools near residence of student, the state government has reopened all 149 schools which were de-notified by the previous BJP government, he said in a function at Bharmaur tribal area.

Singh laid the foundation stone of a Police station and car parking at Bharmaur.

Sources linked Singh's visit to the area with the Mandi Lok Sabha by-poll, for which the Election Commission may soon announce the date.

The Mandi Lok Sabha seat was vacated by Virbhadra Singh, following his election to Himachal assembly in December 2012.

Singh's wife Pratibha Singh had represented the seat from 2004 to 2009.
