Education department clerk caught receiving Rs 15,000 bribe

A head clerk of the School Education department in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district was today arrested by ACB sleuths for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a peon.

60-year-old Gendram Sahu posted with the office of the District Education Officer in Ambikapur (district headquarters) was caught red handed while accepting bribe for clearing the peon's salary which was held up for three months, an Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) statement said here.

The complainant, peon Gajendra Prasad Urao, with the Government Middle School, Padoli in Lundra development block had informed that he was absent from his duty from January, 2014 till March following which his salary was withheld.
 

When he approached Gendram seeking the payment of his salary, the official demanded bribe of Rs 20,000 to clear his files, it said.

Meanwhile, Gajendra registered a complaint against the official with ACB, Bilaspur.

After verifying the complaint, the deal was settled for Rs 15,000.

When the accused agreed to receive the bribe at Ambikpaur old bus stand, a trap was laid there and he was arrested receiving the money, the statement said.

A case under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him, it said.
