Opposition Congress today burnt effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi here in protest against branding the people of north eastern region living in Delhi as "immigrants" in the Vision Document of BJP for the Delhi Assembly elections.

Hundreds of protestors walked in a procession on the streets of the capital city raising anti-Modi and anti-BJP slogans and demanded apology by the prime minister.

"In the Vision Document released by the BJP for Delhi election, the North-East people were branded as 'immigrants'. That means the people of the North-East are outsiders. We think that the people of the Northeast region are citizens of India as anybody is," Congress spokesperson Harekrishna Bhowmik said.

He demanded that BJP should apologise for this to the people of the region.

At the end of the rally, the protestors burnt the effigy of Modi in front of the Congress Bhavan here.
