Efforts on to augment DD, AIR news collection, dissemination

Efforts were underway to augment collection and dissemination of news by Doordarshan and All India Radio, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said today.

He said during Question Hour that the government's endeavour was to make programmes of the two organisations holistic and comprehensive.

Replying to supplementaries, Tewari agreed with the views of members that more news programmes should be aired in regional languages and they should be more content rich.

The Minister said Prasar Bharati has informed that 44 regional units of News Services Division, All India Radio, broadcast regional news bulletins.

In addition to this, he said, a regional news unit has been set-up at Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir which too broadcasts regional news bulletins.
 

As regards Doordarshan, 29 regional news units are telecasting regional news from its various Kendras.

The Minister also exuded confidence that over a period of time there would be improvement in the human resource of the state broadcasters. The infrastructure was too being strengthened, he added.
