Efforts were being taken to make this famous tourist town open defecation free in another one year, a civic official said today.

All out efforts will be taken, with the assistance of public and NGOs, to prevent open defecation in the town, Udhagamandalam Municipality Commissioner G Prabhkaran said during the civic body's 151st foundation day.

In order to increase the revenue of the municipality, it was planned to hike the rent of nearly 3,000 shops in the Municipal market, which at present was very meagre, he said.

Similarly, the municipality is planning to link with the Centre's AMRIT (Affrdable Medicines and Reliable for Treatment), scheme to improve healthcare capacity, he said.
