The 45-year-old man, Sandip Thapa, allgedly shot himself with his service revolver while he was alone in his room at Tamna Phari, superintendent of police C Sudhakar said.
Thapa, who hailed from Kurseong in north Bengal, was apparently under depression, Sudhakar said.
An investigation into the matter is on, he said.
