The bickering in the Trinamool Congress touched a new low today when two state ministers attending a programme to distribute land rights here in Malda town openly argued over invitation to attend the programme.

Minister of Refugee Rehabilitation Department Sabitri Mitra arranged the programme to distribute land rights (patta) to refugees living at Old Malda and English Bazar sub-divisions.

While the pattas were being distributed among the beneficiaries, Krishnendy Chowdhury, Minister for Food Processing, stormed onto the stage and began abusing the sub-divisional officers present, asking why the programme was convened without informing him.

Chowdhury argued that he deserved an invitation since he is an MLA of English Bazar and chairman of the English Bazar municipality and walked out of the programme accompanied by the district magistrate who was also present.

He alleged that not even the local councillor was informed about the distribution of pattas.

After this, the programme resumed without distribution of land rights to the beneficiaries of the English Bazar municipality.

Later, Mitra told reporters, "He (Krishnendu Chowdhury) threatened the officers. Why did he have to do it? I had informed him.
