Egypt's interim president has landed in Saudi Arabia for his first foreign trip since assuming power after the ouster of the country's Islamist president.

Adly Mansour was greeted in Riyadh airport by the kingdom's Defence Minister and Crown Prince Salman. He is scheduled to meet King Abdullah later today.

Saudi Arabia has been the strongest international supporter of Egypt's new government, showering it with USD 5 billion in aid after the popularly-backed military ouster of President Mohammed Morsi in July.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt's interim leadership are both strongly opposed to Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood group.

In remarks published today in the pan-Arab al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper, Mansour described Saudi Arabia's position toward Egypt's new leadership as steadfast, saying his visit is to thank the kingdom for its support.
