Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will travel to China for the first time since he won a May election to boost bilateral relations, his office said today.

The two-day visit on December 23-24 aims to give a push to political and economical ties between the two countries.

The president's office said Sisi will hold talks with Chinese officials to boost economic and tourism ties.

Sisi has made several overseas trips as president with an aim to rebuild Egypt's globally damaged image after his toppling of his Islamist predecessor Mohamed Morsi last year.

A delegation of Egyptian ministers are already in China preparing for Sisi's visit.

The ministers are expected to invite China to participate in an economic conference scheduled to start in March, media reports said.

Egypt's trade with China neared USD 8.8 billion in 2011, up 40 per cent from 2008.
