An Egyptian court set May 16 for a verdict in the prison break trial of ousted president Mohamed Morsi, who could be sentenced to death if convicted, an official said today.

Morsi, overthrown in 2013, faces several trials along with top leaders of his Islamist Muslim Brotherhood movement.

He and 130 others are accused of escaping from prisons along with thousands of other inmates, and murdering police officers during the first few days of the 2011 uprising against Hosni Mubarak.

Another court is to deliver a verdict in an espionage trial of Morsi and 35 others on May 16.

A verdict is also set for April 21 in a trial of Morsi and 14 others for inciting the killing of protesters in clashes outside a presidential palace in December 2013.

That will be the first in any of the cases against Morsi.

Morsi is also facing another espionage trial for leaking classified documents to Qatar and Al-Jazeera television.
