Opposition activists in Egypt today launched a campaign on social media calling for the youth to enlist in the army in a show of support to the armed forces.
The appeal, which went out on Twitter, said the aim of the drive was to express solidarity with the Egyptian army which recently toppled the country's first democratically elected president Mohammed Morsi.
Some other activists welcomed the development, seeing it as a move against pro-Morsi supporters, and emphasised their willingness to support the army.
Husam-al-Din Ali, deputy leader of the Al-Mu'tamar Party, in a tweet said: "The people, who have the best soldiers on earth, will not refrain from helping their army to eradicate the dens of terrorism and trade in the name of religion.
