A grand procession to mark the occasion was taken out in the city starting from Mangalwara area after the mass recital of the Holy Quran in many localities.
A large number of people participated in the procession which passed through areas like Chhawni, Bharat Talkies, Central Library, Itwara, Islampura, Band Master Chowk, Budhwara, Ibrahimpura and Jama Masjid, before it culminated at Imami Gate in the city.
The police administration and Muslim representatives had unanimously set a separate route for Aashiqane Rasool Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, a sect of the community for its procession starting from Ashoka Garden via Pull Boghda and Jinsi Chouraha which culminated at the Lily Talkies Square in the city.
The district administration had made tight security arrangements throughout the route to avoid any untoward incident and the procession passed off peacefully.
