Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated across Punjab and Haryana

Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramzan, was celebrated with enthusiasm and religious fervour in parts of Punjab and Haryana today.

Eid prayers were held at the international headquarters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Qadian town of Gurdaspur district in Punjab.

Muslims from all walks of life participated in the prayers and greeted each other on the occasion. They also distributed to commemorate the occasion.

Ramzan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed as a fasting period by Muslims the world over who abstain from food and water during the period extending from 30 minutes before the sunrise to sunset.
 

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar extended Eid greetings to the people.

"May this auspicious day exemplify the essence of joy, peace and togetherness," Amarinder said in a tweet.
