Eight feared drowned as boat sinks in Bihar

Eight persons were feared drowned while 20 others swam to safety today when an overcrowded boat capsized in Ganga River in Manihari area in the district, police said.

20 persons swam to safety while eight others are still missing. Local divers and NDRF team have been pressed into service to search for the missing persons, Manihari Circle Officer Chandra Kumar said.

The incident occurred near Singal Tola as the boat, carrying persons who were returning home from work in the field, was overloaded, he said.

Baldeo Mandal and Satish Paswan, two persons who swam to safety, said six missing persons hailed from Naya Tola Baghmara while two belonged to Mandal Tola.
 

The injured are being treated at Manihari primary health centre, the official said.
